Roosevelt Walker was born on October 2, 1933 to the late Harold and Lois Johnson Walker in Oconee County, SC. He quietly entered eternal rest on August 26, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings – Clyde Walker, Floyd Walker, Fred Walker, Harry Walker, and Doree Blassingame. He served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserve. During his tenure in the US Army, he served several years in the Korean War. In 1987, Roosevelt received “The Cutting Edge” certificate for his outstanding performance during Blazing Trails “COSTA ABAJO 86.” As a veteran, he joined the American Legion Post #120 where he received several honors, awards, and recognition for his support of other veterans, military, and country. For example, he was recognized as Legionnaire of the month for his outstanding contributions to Post #120 in 2009. In 2010-2011, he was acknowledged for his outstanding dedication and devotion for duty to his post and his community as a Reservist. Roosevelt attended Tri-County Technical College and received a degree in Brick Masonry. After graduating he became an Auxiliary Police for the City of Westminster for several years. He worked at JP Stevens in Clemson for many years until his retirement. He was a loyal & dedicated employee for Gilbert Mortuary & Monument Co. The Seneca River Ministerial Alliance acknowledged Roosevelt for his “Faithful and Dedicated service” at the 1 , 2 , & 3 Annual Scholarship Breakfast. He was recognized as a charter member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Brotherhood for his 40 years of service in 2010. In like fashion, he received his 40 year pin for continuous service in Seneca Lodge #204 Prince Hall affiliation where he held the position of Chaplin for 20 years and remained a dedicated member for 57 years. st nd rd Roosevelt was a member of Ozion Baptist Church where he was a member of the Deacon Ministry, Senior Choir, and the Church Treasurer. He was a member of W.M.W.A., a song leader and field worker for the Seneca River Brotherhood. On January 4, 1956, he was united in holy matrimony to Hadie Ruth Hunter Walker, a union that lasted for 69 years. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Pamela Little (Ronnie) of Liberty, SC and Cathy Dennis of Westminster, SC, six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Roosevelt is further survived by his siblings – Jeanette Wilson, Mary Gilbert (Jerry), Ethel Williams; three sister in-laws – Magdalene Hawthorne, Jenetta Moore (John), Hazel Walker; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Roosevelt was well known throughout Oconee County. A special thanks to his caretakers – his wife, daughters, and nephews, Edward Hampton and William (Sam) Blassingame, along with the Seneca Health and Rehab Facility and Pruitt Home Healthcare.
The Viewing Service will be held on Saturday, August 29,2025 from 1pm- 5pm in the M.J.G Memorial Chapel, Gilbert Mortuary.
The Funeral Service will on Sunday, August 30, 2025 at 2pm, Trinity Baptist Church, 504 S. Oak Street, Seneca SC, 29678. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 150 Pleasant Hill Circle, Westminster SC, 29693.
